This Track Is Fire: Top 12 Posts, #1 - Nine Inch Noize "Closer"

Note: In honor of one full year of This Track Is Fire I thought I would highlight the top 10 posts over the last year, but there's a tie in the seventh position, and a three-way tie in the tenth position, so instead you're getting the Top 12 Posts over the past year. When I had originally posted about this track last year it did not have an official name nor a release, so I referred to it as the "Nine Inch Nails 'Closer' (B Stage Remix w/Boys Noize)" but since then NIN/Boys Noize have released their collaboration album and now it's officially known as "Closer (Nine Inch Noize Version." Listen, regardless of however it's called, this, in my humble opinion, is the proper way to refurbish a classic track that is 30+ years old, keeping everything that made it great while also give it a new polish so that it sounds fresh again. Sure, there are its detractors, but for me this song, heck, this entire album and tour, reinvigorated my deep love of N...

This Track Is Fire: Top 12 Posts, #2 - Elbow "Sober"

Note: In honor of one full year of This Track Is Fire I thought I would highlight the top 10 posts over the last year, but there's a tie in the seventh position, and a three-way tie in the tenth position, so instead you're getting the Top 12 Posts over the past year. As I said back in October , I did not even really know this track before I saw Elbow live for the first time last year, but as I said then, it was a live standout. Nine months later it's still in heavy rotation for me, which, of course it is, I love Elbow, but I love that a band that sells out stadiums in the UK but has a far more limited fanbase in the US is sitting safely at the number two spot in my list of most popular posts. I mean, they should be, but I am glad so many of you agree. Check it out !

This Track Is Fire: Top 12 Posts, #3 - Boys Noize feat. Rico Nasty "Girl Crush"

Note: In honor of one full year of This Track Is Fire I thought I would highlight the top 10 posts over the last year, but there's a tie in the seventh position, and a three-way tie in the tenth position, so instead you're getting the Top 12 Posts over the past year. Fun fact: Boys Noize came in at #3 this past year and I thought I had just discovered them a year or so previously, even before I had heard that they would be the opening act for this NIN tour, but nope! You see, I have lot of music. Long story short, I had actually been a fan of Boys Noize's earlier work, having bought another track almost 10 years prior. I knew the name sounded familiar! Anyway, if you like your techno mixed with pounding, industrial rhythyms, this is for you. Check out the original post here .

This Track Is Fire: Top 12 Posts, #4 - Depeche Mode "Personal Jesus"

Note: In honor of one full year of This Track Is Fire I thought I would highlight the top 10 posts over the last year, but there's a tie in the seventh position, and a three-way tie in the tenth position, so instead you're getting the Top 12 Posts over the past year. Coming in at the #4 spot is my favorite Depeche Mode song of all time, the song that grabbed my attention when I was 16 years old and 32 years later has not let go. I could go on and on about why I love this track, and Depeche Mode, so very much, but I've done that several times , not only on this blog, but my other blog as well . Please check out the original post here .

This Track Is Fire: Top 12 Posts, #5 - Cigarettes After Sex "Keep On Loving You"

Note: In honor of one full year of This Track Is Fire I thought I would highlight the top 10 posts over the last year, but there's a tie in the seventh position, and a three-way tie in the tenth position, so instead you're getting the Top 12 Posts over the past year. Am I a fan of REO Speedwagon? Not really. Am I fan of this cover by Cigarettes After Sex? Definitely. A good song is a good song, and sometimes it takes a great cover to show why  a song is so good. When I launched this blog I just wanted to highlight songs that I personally thought were fantastic and deserved attention. Little did I know that so many people would agree with me on this particular track, landing at #5 for my most popular posts this past year. Check it out !

This Track Is Fire: Top 12 Posts, #6 - The Mighty Rootsmen "Don't Stop"

Note: In honor of one full year of This Track Is Fire I thought I would highlight the top 10 posts over the last year, but there's a tie in the seventh position, and a three-way tie in the tenth position, so instead you're getting the Top 12 Posts over the past year. If you had told me that after a year of posting tracks that are fire that a reggae supergroup doing a cover of Fleetwood Mac "Don't Stop" would be one of my most read posts I would not have believed you, and yet, here we are at #6 with that very track. This entire album is so much fun, but at the very least you should check out this song .

This Track Is Fire: Top 12 Posts, #7 - Starfounder "Stay Where You Are"

Note: In honor of one full year of This Track Is Fire I thought I would highlight the top 10 posts over the last year, but there's a tie in the seventh position, and a three-way tie in the tenth position, so instead you're getting the Top 12 Posts over the past year. Again, I am pleasantly surprised, because (again), I would not call Starfounder anything close to a mainstream act, and yet, coming in at #7 this past year is the fantastic synthwave track out of Russia, "Stay Where You Are." If synths and electronic bloops and bleeps are your happy place, you'll be right at home with this track. Check it out!

This Track Is Fire: Top 12 Posts, #8 - Irvine Welsh & The Sci-Fi Soul Orchestra "A Man In Love With Love"

Note: In honor of one full year of This Track Is Fire I thought I would highlight the top 10 posts over the last year, but there's a tie in the seventh position, and a three-way tie in the tenth position, so instead you're getting the Top 12 Posts over the past year. At #8 is a track so good, so funky, that it made me wish that my dad was still alive just so that I could share it with him,  Irvine Welsh & The Sci-Fi Soul Orchestra "A Man In Love With Love." Seriously, a soundtrack for a book written within the Trainspotting  universe should simply not be this  good, and yet, it is. Check it out!

This Track Is Fire: Top 12 Posts, #9 - California Gold "Stand Close"

Note: In honor of one full year of This Track Is Fire I thought I would highlight the top 10 posts over the last year, but there's a tie in the seventh position, and a three-way tie in the tenth position, so instead you're getting the Top 12 Posts over the past year. At #9 is a track that is near and dear to my heart, "Stand Close" by California Gold . Most couples have "their" song, and though Shalee and I have gone through a few iterations of what that song may be, I think shortly after we both heard this one we knew that this  was our song. It spoke to both of us, to our relationship, and somehow deftly straddled line of the music that each of us appreciates. The fact that I only just posted this four months ago (albeit, right before Valentine's Day) I think speaks to how great this tune is. Check it out !

This Track Is Fire: Top 12 Posts, #10 - Perturbator "The Glass Staircase"

Note: In honor of one full year of This Track Is Fire I thought I would highlight the top 10 posts over the last year, but there's a tie in the seventh position, and a three-way tie in the tenth position, so instead you're getting the Top 12 Posts over the past year. At #10 is  Perturbator "The Glass Staircase ," which, to be fair, is a strong track in an entire album of fantastic songs. It was honestly hard to pick just one, but there was something about this track that just grabbed me.  I would dare to say that Pertubator isn't anything near mainstream music, so I am tickled that this post has seen more love than some more well-established bands. If you haven't already, please do check it out !

This Track Is Fire: Top 12 Posts, #11 - Depeche Mode "Insight"

Note: In honor of one full year of This Track Is Fire I thought I would highlight the top 10 posts over the last year, but there's a tie in the seventh position, and a three-way tie in the tenth position, so instead you're getting the Top 12 Posts over the past year. Coming in at #11 is Depeche Mode "Insight," which pleases me to no end. Every Depeche Mode fan has their favorites, and amongst them we each have a less-heralded song, a hidden gem, that we feel does not get enough love. For me, that track is "Insight." Also: today is the anniversary of the 101st concert of Depeche Mode's "Music for the Masses" tour, which I highlighted yesterday .

This Track Is Fire: Top 12 Posts, #12 - Nine Inch Nails "As Alive As You Need Me To Be"

Note: In honor of one full year of This Track Is Fire I thought I would highlight the top 10 posts over the last year, but there's a tie in the seventh position, and a three-way tie in the tenth position, so instead you're getting the Top 12 Posts over the past year. At #12 is Nine Inch Nails "As Alive As You Need Me To Be" from the Tron: Ares  soundtrack, a track that I am still enjoying on vinyl these last few weeks. Who knew back in 1989 when "Head Like A Hole" was released that NIN would still be as relevant and as on top of their game today as they were then? Love it!
