Moby feat. Mimi Goese "When It's Cold I'd Like To Die"

Today's vibe. Where were you when I was lonesome? Locked away with freezing cold Someone flying only stolen I can't tell this light so old I don't wanna swim the ocean I don't wanna fight the tide I don't wanna swim forever When it's cold I'd like to die Is it comforting or terribly depressing? Maybe both. You tell me. All that I know with certainty is that it is very moving. Welcome to Friday. Enjoy!

Hooverphonic "Cinderella"

I love trip-hop, whether it's Massive Attack, Sneaker Pimps, Portishead, and whoever, its music that I find chill and sometimes haunting, but in a good way.  Sometimes when I listen to a new track from an old trip-hop favorite I lament the fact that the genre seems to have died out, but then I realize that just because I don't realize there are still plenty of trip-hop acts out there doesn't mean that they don't exist. And then I came across this article . You'd think that I would pick one of those acts, and I will, in a future post after I've listened for a bit and found a track that sets me alight, but my first reaction was, "these new bands are really good, but whatever happened to Hooverphonic?" The next thing I knew I was listening to them again, as I do every so many months/years. My friend Bruce shared this album with me close to 30 years ago now, but that doesn't mean that "Cinderella" isn't as fire now as it was then. Happy M...

Leftfield feat. Afrika Bambaataa "Afrika Shox"

Update:   As you may have gleaned from the post that follows, I am much more of a Leftfield fan than I am an Afrika Bambaataa fan. I had some passing knowledge of his importance in the rap and electronic music spheres, but what I was not aware of ( until someone commented on Threads ) was the sexual abuse accuastions made against him . I would never intentially laud such a person; this fault is on me for not doing a more in-depth internet search before I posted. I'm leaving it up because I don't want to hide my mistake; it happened and I own it, but also, as I noted in the post that follows, my interest was more in Leftfield than Bambaataa. The acccusations don't change the quality of the track, but it does greatly diminish my perception of one of the artists involved with said song. My apologies. Leftfield are a fantastic outfit who crafted one of my favorite electronic records of the 90s, Rhythm and Stealth . So why am I bringing up an album that's nearly 27 years old...

Massive Attack "Angel"

So, the press is very certain that they have identified the formerly anonymous artist known as Banksy, but I am not here to talk about that, per se. For years there was speculation that Robert Del Naja, AKA 3D, was perchance Banksy. That no longer appears to be the case, but the more important thing here is that he is  an artist in his own right, a former member of the Wild Bunch street art collective, and one of the leading forces of Massive Attack. This track may be nearly 28 years old, but in my opinion it is opening track of the best album to come out of the 90s. You can make your own arguments, but this is my pick. I love hearing that driving bassline roll over me. Here's to a good week! Enjoy!
