DA & The Jones "Sirens"

I love brutal songs.  Songs that if I share them people wonder if I am sad or depressed. The answer is almost always, "no," I just love miserable music, as so well-quoted in High Fidelity . This song tricks you a bit as it comes across as a ballad via duo, but in reality it's a song about two people unable to make a relationship work. I got a bad heart, got a mean streak A good way of leaving you weak Got time to kill But time don't equal love It just reminds you of The water (the water) We can't get above It's tragic and I love it. Maybe this isn't the best song to post on a Monday when my partner is traveling to another country for work, but I assure you there's no subtext, I just really love this song. Maybe you will too. Enjoy!

The Shins "New Slang"

As I launch into the weekend I am looking for calm and serenity to counter the anxiety that I have been feeling the last couple (several?) weeks. While I would not call myself a fan of The Shins, I do love this particular song and can hardly believe that it's 25 years old, almost half my age. It blows my mind that 1976 is as equistant from when this came out as today. Getting old is mindblowing. Sometimes when the world is crazy you want to slip into something familiar, and today this track is a like a big warm blanket for me. Have a great weekend! Oh, Inverted World (20th Anniversary Remaster) by The Shins

Tracy Chapman "Fast Car"

Like most everyone that has heard this, or Luke Combs' version, I like it, but honestly, this one is for my partner, Shalee. I'm leaving this afternoon for a guy's weekend attending the Detroit Auto Show with a group of my friends. We've been doing for about 20 years now, as I noted on my other blog . I'm going to have a great time, but I will still think of Shalee as I always do when I am away. I can't wait to tell her all about my weekend when I get home on Sunday! Shalee, she loves  this song, so if the theme this week is songs about cars, then I need to include one of her all-time favorites. Enjoy!
